Alphonsa College Thiruvambady has a sound Mentor and Tutor system for facilitating personal attention and support.  Tutors assess the academic progress of their assigned students while mentors know and feel the students through companionship and guidance.  The details follow:

 

Mentoring
Mentoring is a unique method of supporting students to improve their learning and leadership skills and motivating them to towards their future and career development.  Mentoring programme is conducted to help the students to strengthen their capabilities also to build interpersonal relational relationship between teachers and students. With this in mind college has a mentorship programme wherein mentors promote a proactive, collaborative approach to student success. They are the central facilitator for student’s issues and communicate with faculty and families. Mentors provide direct support as well as connecting students to existing resources to within the college to encourage optimal academic and personal achievement

The  whole college  divided into  groups of 10-15 numbers of students and each group assigned a teacher mentor who would perform mentoring duties


Tutoring
Tutors are responsible for helping students to understand different subjects. They assess, assist and encourage the students in the learning processes. These professionals also review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and answers all the doubts and questions of the each student regarding to that topic. Their functions are a supplementation to the class room teaching. They may work at college giving extra support and care for children with issues in some subjects.
 
Tutors usually perform of the following tasks in our college:
•  Developing student´s skills.
•  Helping students to improve their learning process.
•  Detecting specific needs of each student.
•  Teaching supplementary lessons.
•  Creating reports.
